Abstract

This study aims to analyze how the values and norms of pre-Islamic Arabian society influenced the formation of Islamic law, particularly in its social, legal, and cultural dimensions. This research employs a qualitative-descriptive method with a literature-based approach, examining classical and contemporary sources on pre-Islamic traditions as well as primary Islamic sources such as the Qur’an and Hadith. The findings indicate that several pre-Islamic values such as the concepts of honor (muru’ah), covenant traditions (hilf), and philanthropic practices were adapted and refined within Islamic law, while harmful norms such as tribal fanaticism, usury, and structural violence were gradually abolished. The study concludes that Islamic law did not emerge in a vacuum but developed through a transformative process that selected, corrected, and purified pre-Islamic values, resulting in a legal system that is more just, humane, and grounded in monotheism.
